Easter Holiday Homework

A practice exam essay for you on your case study of BROADCAST FICTION. This will be handed out during Friday's lesson but is here just in case.

What is the relationship between the media products in your case study and the advertising industry?

In your answer you should:
- Provide a brief outline of your case study
- Show how media products from your case study have been influenced by advertising
- Support your answer with reference to examples from three media platforms

You need to think about product placement, sponsorship and also the MARKETING of the actual product itself (and any MERCHANDISING). Even with a BBC series there is something to say about how the actual product markets itself and its subsidiaries.

Heroes has had product placement for Sprint, Apple, Dell and other Brands, especially Nissan. Because the show was made for NBC and not the BBC this is obviously acceptable. Programmes made for the BBC have to be very careful about product placement, and technically should avoid it! this is because they are made using money from the licence fee, and the BBC is not allowed to accept money from commercial advertising.

You will probably need to do some research around the Broadcast Fiction texts you plan on using as examples. Remember, you need at least 3 texts to refer to in detail, along with presence of those texts on the 2 other platforms.
